Hinsdale, IL — In a bold and creative expression of faith-driven community engagement, the Hinsdale Seventh-day Adventist Church recently participated in the village’s annual 4th of July parade—not just to celebrate Independence Day, but to connect with neighbors in a meaningful, memorable way. For this congregation, patriotism met purpose in an outreach effort that was as strategic as it was spirited.
Far more than a festive float, the church’s parade presence was the result of thoughtful planning and collaboration. A team of dedicated volunteers worked together to design the float, which also included participation from the Hinsdale Pathfinder Club. Their involvement was both practical and rewarding—the club members earned an official honor for their contributions, blending fun, service, and spiritual growth into one experience.
“The goal was never just to be part of the celebration,” said event organizer Angie Grozdic. “We saw this as an amazing opportunity to introduce ourselves to our community and show that our doors—and hearts—are open.”

The church’s parade team decided early on to do something unique. Instead of simply waving from the float, members actively engaged with the crowd. Volunteers passed out over 1,500 cold water bottles to adults and 575 mini bubble bottles to children. Each item included a custom card featuring the church’s contact information on one side and Vacation Bible School (VBS) registration details on the other.
Altogether, the team distributed an estimated 2,500 informational cards to paradegoers—planting seeds for potential new connections with local families, seekers, and future church members. By offering refreshment on a hot summer day and providing fun for children, the church offered more than just information; they offered care and presence.
This outreach effort also served as a platform to highlight the breadth of the church’s ministry. With over 20 active ministries for all ages, the Hinsdale Seventh-day Adventist Church aims to be a hub of spiritual growth, service, and connection for the surrounding community.
“Whether it’s through our music ministry, children’s programming, or community service, we’re always seeking ways to let our neighbors know they belong,” said Grozdic. “This parade was just another step in building those bridges.”
In a time when many churches are exploring fresh ways to stay relevant and connected, the Hinsdale Seventh-day Adventist Church is leading by example—meeting people where they are, one water bottle, one bubble, and one kind invitation at a time.
