Update: July 5: Added a video of Marty's song below:
The first Sabbath of GC Session will feature many faces from around the world—but one will be especially familiar to members of the North Shore Church. Marty Loriezo will be performing a song during the morning worship music that precedes Sabbath School.
Finding musicians like Marty is a long process. The GC Session Music Committee invites musicians to audition by submitting a recording. The application deadline passed more than a year ago. After that, it was a waiting game to see if your song will be selected.
The Committee accepted Marty’s song, a medley that blends “No One Understands like Jesus” and “The Love of God.”
“I’ve been auditioning since the 2015 session,” Marty says. “It feels amazing.”
While Marty has been singing his entire life, he says that “with this kind of event I feel a bit overwhelmed.” He has practiced the song a few dozen times over the past few months. “I usually listen to the song a bunch of times—mainly to get the lyrics down and feel the flow,” he says. He plans to use his five-hour drive to St. Louis to practice a few more times. “My wife will be tired of hearing my voice by the time we get there,” he laughs.
With the July 5 just two days away, Marty Loriezo feels ready to step on to the big stage: “I am proud to represent North Shore, the Illinois Conference, the North American Division, and the Philippines. It’s a big honor.”
Marty will also be joining the Lake Union Herald team for a livestream around 5:00p.
