About the event
We are so excited to get back on the water with all of our senior Pathfinders, TLT’s, and Master Guides on Sept. 23 for Beyond the Basics 2023! If you are looking for an adventure-filled event where you'll grow physically and spiritually, this is the one for you!
Activities will include worship and fellowship throughout the day, canoeing/paddling, water survival, and much more. Please keep in mind that this trip is designed to be more of a survival trip and is not for those new to canoeing/paddling or camping in general. We'll be paddling a total of 12 miles, so this is not for the faint of heart!
Here’s what you need to know:
- Who can attend: Voyagers, Guides, TLT’s, Master Guides, and Youth + Young Adults ages 15+ up.
- Date: September 23, 2023
- Location: C & M Canoe | 3401 E 2062nd Rd, Ottawa, IL 61350, USA
- Cost: $33 per person (includes the use of a 17 ft river canoe, paddles, life jackets, and onsite transportation to the launch point) Additional $20 for transportation to and from the Illinois Conference Office. 2 people per canoe REQUIRED (please plan who you will be canoeing with)
- Onsite arrival time: 7:30 am on Saturday morning
**If you would like to camp from Friday to the departure to the river time on Saturday, camping spots are available at C & M (you will be required to make your own reservation)
Safety is a priority. You will be required to watch C & M Canoe Rental safety videos and sign a few waivers on Saturday before being shuttled to the river launch location point to secure your reservation (visit: http://www.cmcanoerental.com to watch the videos ahead of time).
What to bring:
• Dry bag
• Lightweight rain gear
• Sunglasses
• Sunscreen
• Water bottle (one gallon of water)
• Swim gear
• Hat
• Towel
• Insect repellent
• Appropriate water footwear
• Food and snacks for a day trip (cans not allowed and everyone shall carry their own)
• Camera/Cell (water protected)
