Membership Records

Church membership is a spiritual relationship.  It can be entered into only by those who are converted.  There are several ways a person can become a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

  • A.  Baptism -- “Christ has made baptism the sign of entrance to His spiritual kingdom.  Baptism is a most solemn renunciation of the world.”  Specifics on the baptismal ceremony, the baptismal covenant, certificate of baptism and commitment are found in the Church Manual.
  • B.  Profession of Faith -- There are several provisions by which an individual is granted membership by profession of faith.  These provisions also appear in the Church Manual.
  • C.  Transfer of incoming membership -- application is made to the clerk of the church with which the member desires to unite.

In one of four ways a person may leave the membership of a Seventh-day Adventist Church:

  • A.  Transfer to another Seventh-day Adventist Church
  • B.  Death
  • C.  Apostasy - Action by a member or the local church to remove the name of those who have become weary of the journey and have decided they no longer want to be members of the church.
  • D.  Missing - An action taken by the local church to remove a name from membership which generally occurs after a long period of no contact with the member.

Each church has a volunteer who takes care of the local church membership, reporting changes on a regular basis to the Conference membership records clerk.  Church membership of each local church constitutes the membership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Illinois.

For those clerks who are not working with eAdventist, please use the form below and send it to the conference for membership changes:
