On Wednesday, May 2, 2012, the La Fox property, former campus of Broadview Academy, was sold.
A special constituency session was held in February of 2007 to discuss the future of Broadview Academy, which voted to close the school by the end of 2006-2007 school year, and to set up an Education Endowment with the proceeds from the sale of the property for Christian education across the Illinois Conference.
In the ensuing months and years, there were no serious offers on the property, partially due to the collapse of the housing market in 2008. Then, in 2011, we received the first tangible offer, expressing significant interest in our property.
The Illinois Association of Seventh-day Adventists in concert with the Illinois Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Executive Committee voted to approve the sale of the property for 3.7 million dollars. On Wednesday, May 2, 2012 the property sale closed and the property no longer belongs to the Illinois Association or the Illinois Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
The Illinois Association and the Illinois Conference of Seventh-day Adventists will be recouping expenses paid out over the last 5 years. After deducting expenses of the sale and funds needed to maintain the property, there should be just under 2 million dollars placed into the education endowment fund voted earlier. Interest from the endowment fund will be used for the support of Christian education in our conference.
In this bittersweet time of transition, we are saddened with the loss of a long-held property while praising God for opening the door to transform a financial burden into resources which can make an eternal difference in the lives of those reached by Christian education in our Conference. Access to alumni memorabilia and school records is available through the conference office.
